Parks and Gardens
If you love the outdoors, you’ll feel right at home in Ypsilanti. Ypsi includes 23,000+ acres of public park and recreation areas that help make up the Washtenaw County area. As an oasis of outdoor opportunities, plentiful in both recreation and leisure, Ypsilanti offers all kinds of adventures. The natural, scenic areas are vast, full of trails to explore and hike. The Ypsilanti area champions its wealth of natural environments, with an incredible and diverse offering of parks, gardens, and outdoor attractions. From kayaking and canoeing to stand-up paddle boarding on the Huron River, to cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice skating when winter comes, and snow is falling.
Take Riverside Park for example, an incredible area full of great views and outdoor activities. The park itself is 15 acres in the middle of Ypsilanti, connecting the Depot Town and Downtown communities. Located along the Huron River, Riverside Park provides picnic areas, trails for biking and walking, several areas with easy river access for fly-fishing, and more. The park is also home to many beloved annual events, like ElvisFest, Michigan Summer Beer Fest, and more. Ford Lake Park is an Ypsilanti Township gem, boasting 98 acres of park space that offers recreational amenities with something for every visitor – from fishing areas, a public boat and canoe launch, and a variety of tennis and racquetball courts, to wooded areas, trails, and open space, this spacious park area offers incredible recreation opportunities.
